True life story. Jim Rohn was at the newspaper stand. A man in front of him slot into the machine the fee to pick a paper: two quarters. While the door opened the man picked a paper but held the door open before it closed. And while holding the door, the guy turned to Jim and said, "Go ahead and pick yours. I think the newspaper company can afford it." Jim answered, "No, thank you." The guy, shocked, closed the door and left. Jim later talked about the story and explained that he knew taking the free paper will make him feel bad. And why would you want to feel that way, just to save two quarters?
I was coming back from Church and someone told me, "Go pray for that boy. Lay your hands on him." I quietly walked past, not wanting to do it. Immediately, I felt this unease. It's difficult to put it in words. And this someone said to me, "Why would you choose to feel this way?" (You needed to see how I stood in the middle of the road.)
Well thankfully, I did it.
You know, I use this now as a framework. If there's something I know I should do; and not doing this thing will make me feel bad, I will ask myself, "Why will you choose to feel this way, just to not...?" It's a good lesson.
(Also, you might get an idea who this someone is; or rather, Someone.)
