Just like the instinct of a lion is different from that of an eagle, in my opinion, the innate instinct of one human being is different from that of another person. These disparate instincts are what separate what we can spontaneously be drawn to and excel in, as compared to how others might struggle in the same areas. There's this aphorism, "All men are equal, but some are more equal than others." I love that! It gives you the idea that while all humans share a common trait of being, there are these instincts that separate one from another. And that's what I want to talk about.
John is a graphic designer. He just gets it. You don't have to do much to explain the concepts and principles to him, HE JUST GETS IT. How does he do that? Instinct, in my opinion. In other cases, John doesn't need schooling to know the right thing to do, he instinctually recognises the right actions to take. Prodigious, you might call him. While others will need follow-up classes, John doesn't need one. His common description is, he just gets it.
Yet, human beings are not like animals. Because one might not have the instinct one admires doesn't mean that that is the end for that one. Human beings also have another attribute, which is common to everyone of us, called Will. Our will is what separates us from dogs and goose etc. who are stuck with their instinct. With our will we can choose to change; we can desire, and we can negate.
There's a Scripture passage that talks about the gifts God distributes to believers on account of being baptised in the Holy Spirit. And each person has her own gift. But, Scripture also says that believers should covet the best gifts. Meaning that the gifts you'd like to have, you can, if you desire to have them and you work towards such. The same is true with my position of human instincts. The special attributes of other people you admire, you can develop, if you pay attention to it and work towards it.
So, we are all different. We have strengths and uniquenesses, Instincts I call it, and because of our common human will we can develop the instincts we admire in other people.
That's it. See you in the next one.
